ANNMARIE McHUGH
Speaker: How Do We End Rape?
On participating in Vagina Festival 2007:
As a rape survivor and the mother of a young daughter, I feel an accountability to share my story. People ask me, "Why do you speak about a rape that happened 20 years ago?" "I say, because that night I was not able to speak and now I can." Speaking about my drug facilitated rape and educating the public on the facts has been an essential part of my healing journey. I am one of the lucky ones, I have a vivid memory of that night. Most victims of DFR's are left with no memory at all. I consider my memory a gift and sharing my transformation from victim to survivor empowers others to do the same. I am honored to be a part of the 2007 Vagina Festival.
About Annmarie McHugh:
Annmarie spent the last 20 years in the entertainment industry working as a model, talent agent, casting director and producer. She has spent the last 5 years speaking as a rape survivor and in 2006 she made the decision to leave the entertainment business and pursue speaking full time.

VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN >
At least one out of every three women around the world has been beaten, coerced into sex, or otherwise abused in her lifetime — with the abuser usually someone known to her. Violence against women and girls is a universal problem of epidemic proportions.

V-Day's 2007 theme Reclaiming Peace seeks to make the connection between the worldwide anti-violence work of V-Day activists with our collective desire for peace and an end to armed conflicts. "We are saying that if a government supports the use of force, weapons, violence as a method of control and dominance, this models and gives license to the same kind of behavior at home," stated V-Day Founder/Artistic Director Eve Ensler.
